Gulf Daily News- MANAMA- Three major e-commerce programmes have been lined up for this year, ahead of the second Gulf e-commerce forum in Bahrain.
The programmes, which are a result of discussions of last year's forum in Bahrain, were launched last night under the patronage of Industry and Commerce Minister Dr Hassan Fakhro. A one day conference on legislation and regulation on e-commerce for the entire GCC will be held in Kuwait on April 28 and is expected to attract more than 200 leaders in the industry from across the Gulf. It has been organised by the Kuwait Central Information Organisation in conjunction with the Gulf e-commerce forum organisers. It will be followed in the third week in May by a week-long certified programme in knowledge management organised by Gulf Synergy Malaysia and will be held in Doha, Qatar, which is expected to attract more than 50 participants. In September, the Arab Open University in Bahrain will launch its Master of Science two-year degree course on the knowledge economy which is expected to attract more than 75 graduates from across the region. "These programmes have all been designed from ideas from the floor of the first Gulf e-commerce forum, which was held in Bahrain towards the end of last year," said Gulf Knowledge Economy vice chairman Dr Hussain Al Mahdi. "They are the direct result of discussions from professionals in the industry from across the GCC at the first forum." The second Gulf e-commerce forum, scheduled to be held in Bahrain on November 24 and 25 this year is taking as its theme security and e-commerce and already looks on course to attract more than 300 industry professionals. "The first forum in Bahrain has proved a magnificent success," said Dr Al Mahdi. "We already have in place this impressive set of three programmes this year ahead of next year's event which looks set to take us a further step forward." He added that delegates for the now annual event in Bahrain would include people from the region as well as a strong global presence.
